Mykhailo Hrushevsky (1866–1934) was the towering Ukrainian historian, academic, and statesman whose monumental multi-volume History of Ukraine-Rus' built the scholarly foundation for the idea of a continuous, distinct Ukrainian nation stretching back to Kyivan Rus'.
